Every unit is assessed practically. Candidates set out real signing, dig real excavations and lay real reinstatement, because that is the only way to know somebody can do it. The theory is covered properly, but it is not where the time goes.

Enquire about this courseThe supervisor units mirror the operative syllabus but assess your ability to plan, direct and check the work rather than carry it out. Every site in the public highway must have a qualified supervisor available, so most gangs need at least one card holder.

Send us your card numbers and expiry dates and we will schedule the whole gang together, which keeps the cost per head down and avoids anyone being turned away at the gate.

Operatives must hold the units covering the operations they personally carry out. Unit O1 is required by anyone breaking ground; the remainder depend on whether you are working in footways or carriageways and which reinstatement materials you use.

Most organisations need at least one supervisor per gang, and holding a second is sensible cover for holidays and sickness.

It depends on the unit set. A common operative combination runs over two to four days including assessment. Supervisor courses are typically similar. Reassessment is shorter — often a single day for a full gang.
The assessments are separate, but we regularly run both on the same visit for the same organisation, which is more efficient than booking two trips.
We will tell you honestly beforehand if someone is not ready, so it is uncommon. Where it does happen we arrange further coaching and a reassessment at a reduced rate rather than restarting the whole course.
Yes for centre-based delivery. On site we normally work with your own signing, lighting and guarding kit and your own tools, which makes the training more directly useful.
CITB-registered employers can often claim grant support for streetworks and plant training. We are a CITB Training Provider Network member and will point you at the right grant codes.
